O. Merdrignac received her PhD in 1989 in chemical science from the University of Rennes 1 and has been awarded with the Prof. P. Gineste Prize (chemistry PhD thesis award). She carried out post-doctoral research (EC fellowship) at Harwell Laboratory, AEA Technology, Electrical Ceramics & Gas Sensors Section (UK). In 1991, she was appointed as an associate professor at the University of Rennes 1 where she received her Habilitation in 2000. She has more than 25-year experience in synthesis and characterization of oxide and non-oxide (nitrides and sulfides) materials.
Properties of interest are either electrical (gas sensors based on semiconductor oxides and oxynitrides), photocatalytic (degradation of organic compounds) or optical (transparent ceramics, phosphors). She has led the semiconductor gas sensors thematic for 20 years. She has been responsible for contracts with industry (Atmospheric Sensors LLC, CoorsTek/Solcera, Selex ES Ltd, up-scaling project funded by Ouest Valorisation TTO) and implicated in 2 ANR projects. Since 2013, she is a Board Member of the French Ceramic Society (GFC).

  • Gas-solid reaction mechanisms (TPD/MS, DRIFTS in situ). Application to gas sensing
  • Photocatalytic properties (degradation of organic compounds)
  • Biomaterials
  • Elaboration of IR transparent ceramics by HP and SPS and characterizations (SEM/TEM, Vis-IR transmission)

 

 

  • Doped (RE or TM ions) (oxy)sulfide materials for active optical applications: phosphors, energy conversion, laser ceramics, optical refrigeration
